The focus of the Carers’ Research Project was to better understand the lived experiences of carers and/or families of persons with a disability, shortly after the person or people they care for entered the NDIS, and over the following 18-month period.

Acknowledging that the primary focus of NDIS support is people with disabilities, the study was formulated to better understand how carers are responding to changes within the broader disability support environment in New South Wales (NSW).

It is hoped that the findings of this study can assist in improved understandings of carer experiences and needs, in order to inform enhancement of the support mechanisms for them, whether this be through the NDIS or other avenues.

The study was carried out on the Mid North Coast of NSW, a region with socio-economic challenges.
