16 Days of Activism
Jackson Katz: Violence against women: it’s a men’s issue
The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a global annual campaign held from 25th November to 10th December, and is dedicated to raising awareness of violence against women and girls as a fundamental human rights violation. The campaign calls on individuals, communities, and organisations around the world to come together, demand accountability, advocate for prevention, and foster a culture rooted in equality, safety, and respect for all.
Blue Sky Community Services is hosting a series of five live webinars featuring thought leaders and influential practitioners who are making a significant impact in this field.
The speaker for this event, Jackson Katz, Ph.D., is an American educator, author, and leading scholar-activist who has been at the forefront of the global movement of men working to promote gender equity and prevent gender-based violence. He co-founded the first large-scale prevention initiative in university and professional athletics in North America, as well as the first system-wide prevention program in the U.S. military. He is one of the original architects of the “bystander” approach to prevention. In his talk for the 16 Days of Activism, Katz will speak to the importance of men’s involvement and leadership in the prevention of gender-based violence, and the many intersections in this work among gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and religion.
