DV Safe Phone Initiative

A new service in Coffs Harbour which provides free, reconditioned mobile phones to people suffering domestic violence, was launched recently.

It is common for perpetrators of domestic violence to remove or break their partner's phone to further isolate them. For this reason a charity called DV Safe Phone launched  a scheme whereby it collects old mobile phones, has them reconditioned and then made available to organisations which assist people who are being subjected to domestic violence.

DV Safe Phone has been operating since 2020 and has given away over 13,500 phones to people who need them. The service has undoubtedly saved many lives.

The Coffs City Rotary Club  has taken on the task of gathering old mobile phones in the Coffs Harbour area and has placed the phone collection boxes in hotels in Moonee, Coffs Harbour, Toormina and Sawtell. During the first two weeks of operation, the Rotary Club collected over 20 phones.

To find out where you can donate a phone, or where you can obtain a phone if you are in need of help, visit the DV Safe Phone website.
