Training and Tips for using the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National)
Expired
Melissa Beit has worked as a psychologist at STARTTS for the past five years, but has been involved in the refugee sector for many years. She uses Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) interpreters every day in her counselling work, and in this session will provide some much-needed tips about navigating TIS.
Melissa will cover:
- Cold-calling TIS and how to get the best interpreting service as quickly as possible
- Pre-booking an interpreter through TIS online
- Managing interpreters during sessions, e.g. if you start to suspect that the interpreter is paraphrasing or skipping content
- Requesting the same interpreter for a subsequent session
- Excluding specific interpreters if they are known to the non-English speaker or if they have interpreted inappropriately in the past
- Making a complaint through TIS
- Accessing alternative translator and interpreter services if TIS is not available.
