‘Putting Grandcarers on the Map’ was the slogan for Grandcarers Week 2024. Grandcarers are grandparents who care for their grandchildren full-time. On October 15th, grandcarers in our community were recognised, celebrated, appreciated and nurtured. Funding from Carers NSW and a generous donation from Di at Bangalow CWA enabled Lennox Head Community Hall and equipment to be hired, and a sumptuous lunch to be served. Hartley’s Fresh Market in Ballina provided an abundance of flowers.
Paul played music, Kenny Mac took photos, Mandy Nolan captivated with comedy and demonstrated her waitressing skills. MasterChef finalist Julie Allen cooked up a storm, including takeaway dinner for the grandcarer families. Julie later gave a stunning address about foster care.
Leanne from Blue Sky presented handmade gifts and Sue, also from Blue Sky facilitated the day.
The Grandcarer project thanks all who gave their time, expertise and goodwill to an event never to be forgotten by the grandcarers.
Grandcarer meetings are held in Ballina on the first Monday of the month at 11:30 a.m.
