Tulli Stevens & Kirra Ratcliffe

By 08/09/2020

Tulli Stevens is a 24-year-old Gumbaynggirr artist living in Mullaway on the Mid North Coast. Growing up in such a beautiful place, surrounded by nature and culture, has been one of the main inspirations in Tulli’s art. Her paintings tell her story; they are a reflection of family, community, and the complex, elemental beauty of patterns in nature.

Tulli believes that art can be a form of meditation and self-connection, finding the process of creating art to be more important than the finished piece.

Kirra Ratcliffe is a 19-year-old artist originally from Woolgoolga but now lives in Sawtell. She has been painting since before she can remember. Whilst she loves all art, she specializes in abstract art as its authentic and perfect in its own way.

Kirra draws inspiration from nature, mainly the beautiful coastal beaches she grew up around. The beach has been a big part of making her the person she is today. It has taught her how to be calm, go with the flow and that she can’t control everything  – and that’s okay. When Kirra is in the ocean she feels tranquil and free, she feels that this strongly reflects on her unique views and style of art.

The world we live in today can be hectic, but the beautiful serenity of the Mid North Coast is what has inspired Kirra to be the artist she is today. The artwork Kirra has prepared for the Toormina skate park titled “Sunset Over the Beach”, using spray paint and POSCA pen mediums, is inspired by the beautiful local beaches that surround it from Boambee Headland to Sawtell Headland. She has chosen to draw her inspiration from local beaches as she feels it is personal to the Toormina community.
